Life of a football fan can be pleasant sometimes 🙂 This weekend about everything I wanted, turned out the way I was hoping for. My favourite team in Belgium, Oostende, won the heated derby against local rivals Roeselare and now share the first spot in the second division with Waasland-Beveren.
Real Mallorca surprisingly won 1-2 in Valencia and is in the worry-free mid-table with 11 points (thanks to, amongst others, draws vs Real Madrid and Barcelona and a win versus "the third giant" Valencia… the "giantkillers" tag may be applied?).
And most of all, I had a championship title to celebrate. My beloved Rosenborg BK has been crowned champions of Norway again!
On Sunday evening 24th October, in the third last game of the domestic league season, Rosenborg beat third-placed Tromsø with 1-0 thanks to a 79th minute goal by Prica. This means with just two games left to go and with Rosenborg being 8 points ahead of second ranked Valerenga Oslo, the Trondheim outfit can no longer lose its grip on the first spot and the championship crown. The new league crown is now a fact and this time we could celebrate in our own stadium Lerkendal!
For Rosenborg this is the 22nd time it is crowned champions of Norway. It is the second league crown in a row for Rosenborg, which for most of the season was managed by legendary coach Nils Arne Eggen as caretaker after Erik Hamren left to become national coach of Sweden. A special thankyou to legend Eggen who once again helped the club when it was needed and once again did a brilliant job.
This new triumph means next season we can again attempt to reach the group stages of the Champions League (which we failed this season as on aggregate, FC København of Denmark was too strong in the final qualifying stage) but this season is not over yet: we are still in the group stages of the Europa League (group B with opponents Bayer Leverkusen, Aris Saloniki and Atletico Madrid) in which we still have a chance to qualify for the knock-out stages, and also domestically it isn’t over yet: with 19 wins and 9 draws so far this season, we have not lost a single game yet in the league of Norway. If we manage to not lose the last 2 games of the season, we finish the league unbeaten which would be an epic performance. Last year we lost only one game, the home defeat versus IK Start in the first game after being crowned champions. Let’s try to improve that result and finish the domestic season without a single league defeat this time.
However, the most important duty is done. Rosenborg are champions of Norway again. On top of congratulating all players and staff of the club, I finalise this article with the well-known HEIA ROSENBORG!!
